FOSS Hut registration
A FOSS Hut is an area dedicated to a specific focus area in FOSS, be it a project like KDE, community like SMC, user groups, special interest groups like mappers or start ups depending on FOSS. If you fit in with any of the above descriptions you can request to build your own hut.
We will provide you with all the basic stuff you need to get started
* Internet connectivity - you can have IRC running for remote participants
* posters - give us the design and we will prepare posters for you
* black/white board - have a live brain storming session for new ideas
* volunteers - want help with running the show?
What is expected from you?
* A wiki page in your site with ideas, people, special requirements, how to get involved
* Be there for the event - if you cannot make it for the event request anyone to help you set things up on the ground
- and join on line
* Co ordinate all the activity in the hut - remember it can be quite challenging if you are alone
You can have introductory material for complete newbies and sessions for helping new contributors to get started. You can meet other developers of your project in real life and brain storm on that new feature you want to have. Think of it as Google Summer of code, where google offers a platform for FOSS projects to get new contributors, FOSS Meet is offering that platform to meet and mentor interested student or your next potential contributor.
You can expect many students interested to contribute to Free Software, but looking for guidance. You can also show cool new features to potential contributors and new users. You can get direct feedback from end users of your software and it will help you improve your software.
Are you an enterprise using an open source software. You can propose a project hut and sponsor a bounty for every project patch contributed. You get the publicity and project gets the code. Not to forget, you will get to meet the best brains in the project.
There will be many participants to who are very new to FOSS and would like to get involved in local user group activities. So if you participate in any user groups, make sure you at least have a banner about your group ready, which will tell any interested person to participate in your activities. Also we would really like to see one user group helping with at least one FOSS Hut. You can have your banner shown in the Community Hut.
Come up with specific ideas you would like to work on during the event and we will ask students to apply.
Constructions started for following huts - Localization, SysAdmin, Mapping, Community, GNU Labs.
How to apply?
